With deep sadness, we announce the passing of David Edward Bodden, who left us on August 27, 2024, at the age of 76 years old after a brief battle with Mesothelioma.
Born on September 26, 1947, in Hackensack, NJ, David’s life was marked by variety. A true jack-of-all-trades, he tried his hand at everything: from working on a chicken farm in his teen
years, to driving a school bus, to selling women’s shoes. He even served as a volunteer firefighter in Nanuet, NY. At age 35, David began his 30-year career with IBM, starting as a technician and later becoming a project manager. Outside of work, he never ceased to pursue his passion for carpentry, putting an addition on his first home and constantly going down to the basement to work on a new project.
In his retirement he was lovingly referred to as “Handyman Dave” in the various neighborhoods in which he lived in Rhode Island, Ohio, and, most recently, Amesbury, MA, as he and his wife followed their daughter around the country for grandma and grandpa duty.
David is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, June Bodden; his son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Rebekah Bodden; his daughter and son-in-law, Casey and Rick Knight; 5 grandchildren, Xinli, Harper, Tucker, Miles, and Reed; his sister, Barbara Bodden-Burdick; his brother, Douglas Bodden; his cat Pancake; and his 55 Chevy Belair, which he spent the last several years restoring. He was predeceased by his parents, Hugh and Bernice Bodden, and his brother, Jim Bodden.
David was a born-again Christian, faithfully attending several Baptist churches and serving as an usher throughout his life. His son fondly remembers him once saying “Look at how beautiful the world is. How could you not believe in God?” We rejoice that Dave is now in Heaven with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!
A graveside service for family and close friends will be held at Union Cemetery in Amesbury, MA on Sept 21st , 2024, at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made
to China Little Flower (https://chinalittleflower.org/) or the Mesothelioma Applied Research
Foundation (MARF) https://www.curemeso.org/.
David’s kindness, warmth, and Donald Duck impressions will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
