Dennis A. Plourde

May 4, 1949 — September 29, 2025

Newburyport, MA

Dennis Andrew Plourde was released from his battle with Alzhiemer’s Disease on September 29, 2025, he was 76 years old. Born on May 4th, 1949 to John L. Plourde and Phyllis Fenton Plourde at Ft. Dix in NJ, Dennis spent his childhood and adolescent years in Amesbury, MA where he made countless fond (and often explosive) memories with his brothers David, Thomas and James Plourde.

Dennis was predeceased just 7 months prior by his wife of 39 years, Sally Plourde. Dennis and Sally were united by their passion for protecting abused and neglected children as social workers for the Department of Social Services in Haverhill, MA. Dennis continued to serve children and families in his work with adoption agencies both stateside and abroad; and finally in the Lowell school system where he taught high school science until his retirement. Dennis was known for his kind and gentle spirit along with his quick wit and sometimes dark sense of humor.

Dennis was a talented woodworker who loved finding the most unique pieces of wood and turning them into functional works of art. He loved black and white photography and was fueled by 60s and 70s rock & roll and folk rock that shaped his generation. He could fix just about anything and made renovation dreams come to life. Together, Dennis and Sally thrived on fun and adventure; hiking and skiing the mountains of NH, island-hopping on their kayaks from their beloved vacation home in Vinalhaven, ME and exploring the world from Hawaii to France.

Dennis was unwavering in his love and support as a father, step-father, adoptive father and grandfather. He is survived by his children: Daniel Plourde and his wife Kim, Michael Plourde and his wife Anna, Julien Lafleur and his wife Anne, Jack Lafleur and his partner Charlaine, John Brandolini and his wife Ann and Lily Letourneau and her husband, Jesse; and his grandchildren: Jarod and Jesse Plourde, Sage and Phelix Lafleur, Mattie, Daniella and William Brandolini and Elowyn and Kaius Letourneau.

Calling hours will be held at Elliot, Woodward and Roger’s Funeral Home at 35 Green St in Newburyport on Monday, November 3 at 11am followed by a celebration of life at PITA Hall, 8 Plum Island Turnpike, in Newbury (Plum Island) at 2:00pm.

Dennis and Sally’s ashes will be spread together in their favorite location on Vinalhaven, ME.
