Dorothy B. Jean

Dorothy B. Jean, age 93, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 3rd, 2026, while in the care of Beacon Hospice at Langdon Place, where she had resided for 5 years.

Dottie was born in Amesbury on January 26, 1933, to Walter and Bertha (Morrill) Turgeon. She was the youngest of 5 siblings. Dottie was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Dottie loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She loved to sing and did so all of her long life. Dottie cleaned her home while listening and singing along with musicals like South Pacific and Oklahoma. Dottie was not a patient person. However, that personal trait drove her to provide for her family as best that she could and her intent was to always please but sometimes she seemed a little abrupt.

Dottie graduated from Amesbury High School in June of 1951. She met her future husband, Alfred J. Jean Jr. weeks later. They married in June of 1952. Dottie and Al struggled but persevered. After a few moves they were able to acquire their home in Amesbury, where they raised their family until 2019.

Dottie had a beautiful singing voice and she enjoyed using that talent over many years . She sang in Saint Joseph Church choir for decades. She performed in many fund raising productions at St Joe’s. She and Al were heavily involved in the life of St. Joe’s, if they weren’t home they were at the church and they were on the Parish Council for many years. She and a group of old friends performed extensively as The Singing Belles. They traveled extensively throughout New England and were real professional.

Dottie worked for decades in banking beginning with the Northeast National Bank, Bank of New England, Fleet Bank and First & Ocean Bank and The Newburyport Five.

Dottie was preceded in death by her parents and all of her siblings. Left to cherish her memory are her son Michael J. Jean and his wife Dianne, her daughter Marianne J. Mooers and her husband Paul, her grandson Ryan Mooers and his wife Catherine, her granddaughter Alison Bell and her husband Patrick, her granddaughter Michaella, her grandson Kyle Mooers and his wife Emily Dowling, his granddaughter Caitlin Kennedy and her husband Ryan, her great-grandchildren Alivia, Aria, Logan , Rowan, Claire, Carter, Conner, Savannah and Kaia.
