Dorothy B. Jean, age 93, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 3rd, 2026, while in the care of Beacon Hospice at Langdon Place of Exeter, where she had resided for 5 years. Dottie was born in Amesbury on January 26, 1933, to Walter and Bertha (Morrill) Turgeon. She was the youngest of 4 siblings.
Dottie was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Dottie loved her family, and especially loved being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Dottie graduated from Amesbury High School in June of 1951. She met her future husband, Alfred J. Jean Jr., weeks later. They married in June of 1952.
Dottie had a beautiful singing voice and she enjoyed using that talent over many years. She was a member of the Saint Joseph Church choir for decades. She performed in many fundraising productions at St. Joe’s. Dottie was a Eucharistic Minister, and was a member of the parish Mothers Club and the church Holiday Decorating Committee. In later years, worked and cooked for the Coalitions.
She and a group of friends formed a group known as The Singing Belles. They traveled extensively throughout New England, and had many wonderful adventures together.
Dottie worked for decades in banking, beginning with the Northeast National Bank, Bank of New England, Fleet Bank and First Ocean Bank and The Newburyport Five.
Dottie was preceded in death by her parents and all of her siblings and her husband Al. Left to cherish her memory are her son Michael J. Jean and his wife Dianne, her daughter Marianne J. Mooers and her husband Paul, her grandson Ryan Mooers and his wife Catherine, her granddaughter Alison Bell and her husband Patrick, her granddaughter Michaella, her grandson Kyle Mooers and his wife Emily Dowling, his granddaughter Caitlin Kennedy and her husband Ryan, her great-grandchildren Alivia, Aria, Rowan, Logan, Claire, Carter, Connor, Savannah and Kaia, and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Paul C. Rogers Family Funeral Home, 2 Hillside Avenue, Amesbury, MA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on April 9, 2026 at 10:30 AM at Saint Andre Bessette Parish, 2 School Street, Amesbury, MA, followed by interment at Saint Joseph Cemetery, Macy Street, Amesbury, MA.
In lieu of flowers, please donate in Dottie’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or St. Vincent de Paul of Amesbury, 11 Sparhawk Street, Amesbury, MA 01913.
