Douglas J. Curtis

Douglas Jones Curtis (76), of Newbury, MA, husband of Linda (Pasquine) Curtis, passed away peacefully on August 31, 2026, in Newburyport, MA surrounded by his loving family.

Born Douglas McKay Jones in Gloucester, MA on December 21, 1949, he was the son of the late Marjorie Dean Moore and Donald Roger Jones. Following the early passing of his father, his mother remarried Lt Col. James W. Curtis, US Army, who raised Doug and his brother Don as his own.

As part of a military family, Doug lived in Kansas, MD, and Germany during his childhood. He had fond memories of his time in Germany, often sharing stories of learning to ski in the Alps and travelling through Europe.

Doug attended Marlborough College in Wiltshire, England, before attending The Governor's Academy in Byfield, MA, where he graduated Cum Laude in 1967. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from Tufts University in 1971.

Doug met his wife Linda while both were students at Boston University; and they recently celebrated 50 years of marriage earlier this past April with close family and friends.

Driven by an entrepreneurial spirit and a lifelong passion for engineering, Doug was constantly seeking to innovate. In 1987, he developed a manufacturing technique for guidewires and soon after launched Guidewire Technologies Inc. in 1988. Over time, GTI grew to serve both domestic and international medical device companies. Ever the hands-on engineer, he loved collaborating with clients; and if he missed a day at work - he would always want to know ‘what’d I miss?’. GTI continues to operate today with his daughter Virginia who has been supporting the company for several years.

Doug was an avid gardener known locally for his beautifully landscaped yard and seasonal flower beds, as well as his prized vegetable garden. His corn was a family favorite, as well as the massive pumpkins he grew for Halloween.

As a child, Doug was an avid baseball fan and played Little League and throughout his life, he was a devoted Boston sports fan. Doug cherished taking his daughters to Bruins, Celtics, and especially Red Sox games. While he avidly supported the Patriots, he happily traded the cold metal seats of old Foxboro Stadium for the warmth of his couch. Music was another passion—having worked at Boston concert venues in his twenties; Doug developed a deep love for '70s rock, frequently playing vinyl by Pink Floyd, Toto, The Animals, Queen, and The Rolling Stones.

In his later years, Doug revelled in his role as a grandfather. He doted on his young grandson, Rayne, flying to London to celebrate his first birthday—a visit made even more special when Rayne took his very first steps.

Doug was preceded in death by his mother, Marjorie Curtis; his father, Donald Jones; and his stepfather, Lt Col. James W. Curtis.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Curtis; his brother Donald Curtis; his daughters, Lindsay Curtis and Virginia Curtis; and his grandson, Rayne Bailey-Curtis.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, September 11, 2026 from 10:30 A.M. to 12 P.M. at Elliott, Woodworth & Rogers Family Funeral Home, 35 Green Street, Newburyport, MA 01950, immediately followed by a Memorial Service at the Funeral Home and a Graveside Service at the Evergreen Cemetery in Newburry, where Douglas will be laid to eternal rest
