Dwight W. Lowes

Dwight Lowes, 72, passed away peacefully, on Dec. 18, after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. He leaves his wife, Barbara, his son David Church and daughter-in-law Beth, and sister Sharon Golas. He also leaves three brothers, Dennis Lowes, Richard Lowes, Jamie Lowes and his wife Janice. He also leaves his nephew Dennis Lowes and wife Sharon, and their children, Felicia and Joseph. He leaves his niece, Heather Brooks, along with many relatives on his wife’s side.

Dwight was a wonderful husband to his wife of 53 years. He was a good and loyal friend of many. Dwight was very social with a great sense of humor.

He lived just over the line in Haverhill, but he was committed to Merrimac. He opened a business at 101 East Main St. in 1981 and had several businesses there until 2005 when he remodeled the building for other businesses to open their doors.

Dwight was a man of many talents. He could do anything he set his mind to. He was known for giving good advice.

Dwight’s passion was stock car racing. He built his first car when he was 15 and built at least 5 other cars over time. He raced at the Pines Speedway in Groveland as well as other tracks in New Hampshire and Maine. He was interested in the history of local stock car racing. He amassed a collection of thousands of photos of racers and their cars.

He also supported the Santa Parade Committee by managing a car show each year as a fund raiser for the parade, his last one in August of this year. He would line up the antique and hot rod cars for the parade. He also loved driving the Santa float on Christmas Eve

.There is so much more to Dwight than what is written here. He leaves so many people whose lives he touched, and because of them, he will always be remembered.
