George T. Allen, age 88, longtime resident of West Newbury, MA, passed peacefully on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at the High Pointe House in Haverhill, surrounded by his loving family. George was the devoted husband of 61 years to Elizabeth M. Allen, who passed on March 17, 2023.
Born in Lynn, October 30, 1937, he was the son of the late Henry B. and Mary E. (Moran) Allen and was a graduate of Newburyport High School. He went on to receive a Bachelor’s Degree from Northeastern University.
George was proud to serve with the United States Naval Reserve for several years.
An employee of General Electric for 30 years working as an engineer in the Turbine and Aerospace Division, George was the go-to-guy for any questions since he was the man with all the answers. He served on the Board and as the President of the GE Credit Union for many years.
His life’s legacy will continue to be treasured by his children, Lisa A. Evans and husband David of West Newbury, twins, Henry Allen of Washington, DC and George T. Allen and wife Claire of Worcester, MA; two grandsons, Cameron Evans and Tyler Evans both of West Newbury; his sister, Barbara (Allen) Deziel, along with extended family and many dear friends. In addition to his parents, he was also pre-deceased by his beloved wife, Elizabeth “Betty” (Gaudette) Allen.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, March 15, 2026 from 2 P.M. to 5 P.M. at Elliott, Woodworth & Rogers Family Funeral Home, 35 Green Street, Newburyport, MA 01950. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, March 16, 2026 at 10:30 A.M. at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, 42 Green Street, Newburyport, followed by a Graveside Service at St. Mary’s Cemetery, 36 Storey Avenue, Newburyport, where George will be laid to eternal rest beside his dearest wife, Betty.
