George “Buddy” Henderson died Thursday May 15th 2025, at Anna Jacques Hospital after a period of declining health.
Born to James and Ellene (Merrill) Henderson, he lived his entire life in Newburyport, attending school at the Brown, Jackman, and graduating Class of 1969 at Newburyport High School.
Many would know George from his work in the Furniture Industry. “Generous George” started his career in the warehouse of Boxers Furniture, moving up to salesfloor before the stores closing. He worked at Gallagher’s Furniture and became manager of Hoffman’s/Bob’s Furniture of Seabrook, before retirement.
If not through furniture you may have known him through his many part time jobs. Always a go getter he had paper route’s for Waverly News, worked at Salisbury Beach Arcades, Labadini’s and Gullsway Variety, he loved working with people.
George is predeceased by his parents and brother John M Henderson. He leaves behind brothers James and his wife June of Newburyport, David and his husband Rich Upham of Peabody, and Peter Henderson of Amesbury. Also survived by his nieces Kelley and her husband Jonathan Flesher of Ellicott City, MD, and Melissa and her husband Jeffrey Pelletier of Hudson, MA, and nephew Brett Henderson of Newburyport; great niece McKinley Pelletier, and great nephews James Pelletier and Carter Flesher, all had a special piece of Uncle Buddy’s heart. Along with relatives, he leaves many lifelong and dear friends and neighbors. Many were as close and caring as family to him.
To his “Breakfast Club friends from Marie’s” he would tell you, “I won’t be down to breakfast, but I’ll be having lunch with Neil, Pikey, and Bill T.”
IF EVER COMES THE DAY, WE CANNOT BE TOGETHER, KEEP ME IN YOUR HEART, I’LL STAY THERE FOREVER.
