George Robert Holmes Jr., 62, of Greenville, New Hampshire, passed away on October 10, 2026.
A lifelong hard worker, talented master carpenter, devoted father, and doting grandfather, George will be remembered for his independence, his sharp and curious mind, his love of family, and the many skills and passions he shared with those closest to him.
George grew up in the South End of Newburyport, Massachusetts, and spent the majority of his life in and around the community he knew so well before eventually settling into the home he purchased in Greenville, New Hampshire.
An independent and resourceful man, he took great pride in his master carpentry and home construction projects through his own business. His craftsmanship and ability to build and transform homes were an important part of who he was.
George was also a lifelong self-learner with an inquisitive mind. He enjoyed reading and learning about the world around him and could engage in an intelligent conversation with just about anyone on nearly any subject he had recently read or heard about.
Above all, George was proud of his children and took great interest in their lives and accomplishments. Most recently, he had the opportunity to work alongside his son, Casey, on home remodeling projects. He was impressed by Casey’s growing skill and craftsmanship and took pride in seeing his son develop talents of his own.
George was equally proud of his son, George Robert Holmes III, and his partner, Allison, who recently purchased their first home in Carver, Massachusetts—a milestone that brought him great pride.
Although miles separated George from his beloved daughter, Courtney, and her husband, Christian, who live in West Palm Beach, Florida, he thought of them often and made an effort to remain close through visits, phone calls, and thoughtful little gifts. Distance never diminished the place his children held in his heart.
George was a doting grandfather to Alysia, Alejandro, Abelardo, and Camila. His love of motorcycles, hockey, and family were passions he shared with his children and that became part of his family’s story. He also leaves behind a collection of music, stamps, baseball cards, and antiques that will be passed on to his three children, allowing these treasured pieces of his life to remain part of their lives for years to come.
George is survived by his three beloved children, George Robert Holmes III, Courtney Holmes-Vazquez, and Casey Ford Holmes; his four cherished grandchildren, Alysia, Alejandro, Abelardo, and Camila; his mother, Sharon Murphy Holmes; and his two brothers, Mark Anthony Holmes and Geoffrey Alan Holmes.
He is further survived by his former wife, Heide Yanakakis Holmes, and his former partner, Tammy Teague, along with many family members, colleagues, and friends whose lives he touched.
George leaves behind a legacy built through hard work, craftsmanship, curiosity, and the love he shared with his family. The homes he helped build, the knowledge he shared, the passions he passed down, and the memories held by his children and grandchildren will continue to be part of his story.
Calling hours will be on Monday, November 2nd from 5-8 p.m. at Elliott, Woodworth & Rogers Family Funeral Home, 35 Green St. Newburyport, MA 01950.
Burial will be private at a later date.
