Gerard J. Coogan

Gerard J. Coogan, age 80, of Newburyport, passed on Monday morning, August 18, 2025, after many years of poor health. He is survived by his devoted wife of fifty two years, Barbara M. (Foley) Coogan.

Born in Everett, MA, June 10, 1945, he was the son of the late John and Marion (Macauley) Coogan. After graduating from high school, Gerard went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree from Salem State College.

A proud U.S. Navy Veteran, Gerard served from October 10, 1966 until his discharge on June 4, 1969, with the rank of CT-2. After his Military Service, he had a lifelong career as a financial auditor at the DCAA, Defense Contract Audit Agency of the Federal Government, retiring after 38 years.

He will continue to be fondly remembered by his wife, Barbara; son, Steven Coogan and wife Jennifer; daughter Patricia Coogan; his two grandchildren, Cassidy and Dean; his sisters, Janet Coogan Mangini and Julie Goodness and husband James; two brothers, Michael and Neil, along with extended family and many dear friends.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, August 24, 2025 from 2 P.M. to 5 P.M. at Elliott Woodworth & Rogers Family Funeral Home, 35 Green Street, Newburyport. A Funeral Mass will be held Monday, August 25, 2025 at 10:30 A.M. at the Immaculate Conception Church, 42 Green Street, Newburyport, followed by burial at St Mary’s Cemetery, 28 Storey Avenue, Newburyport.
