Jon H. Martin

Jon Herbert Martin (Jack), 84, of Amesbury, passed away on August 10, 2026 after a short stay at High Pointe House in Haverhill.

Jack grew up at his beloved Lake Attitash in Amesbury. His childhood stories were filled with boating and water-skiing with his older brother, Bob. He graduated from Amesbury High School in 1960 and served in the Coast Guard Reserve. He went on to have a career in local banking and retired as vice president from the Institution for Savings in Newburyport in 2006. He was a longtime member, and 1985 president, of the Newburyport Rotary Club.

In his retirement, he enjoyed his Harley Davidson motor-cycle, polishing his car, trips to Las Vegas with his friends, and family vacations to Disney World and to Megunticook Lake in Camden, Maine.

To know Jack was to know that he loved to play. He spent a lifetime with his children, nieces and nephews, and grandchildren inventing and playing games --from his version of “old maids,” to “pool baseball” -- that have now been passed down to the youngest generation. Through it all, Jack had a quick witted sense of humor that kept everyone laughing.

Jack leaves behind his devoted wife of 62 years, Christine (Picard) Martin; his daughter, Karin A. Martin (Laurie) and son, Jon E. Martin (Jennifer); his grandchildren, Christopher, Julie, Nicholas, and Jacob. He was predeceased by his mother Anna (Cofran) Martin and his brother Robert Martin.

Calling hours will be at Rogers & Sons Funeral Home at 2 Hillside Avenue, Amesbury from 4;00-7:00 P.M. on Thursday, August 13, 2026. The family will have a celebration of Jack’s life in the coming days.
