Julie Elizabeth Nedelka (née Carroll) passed away at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington, Mass., on Oct. 8, 2026, following a brief illness. She was 79.

The daughter of James and Edna Carroll (née Gainey), Julie grew up in Malden, Mass., graduating from Malden High School in 1965. As a young woman, she worked in sales for New England Telephone in Boston, rising to the role of account executive, a position she held until the early 1980s.

She met her future husband, Thomas (Tom) Nedelka, in the late 1970s when mutual friends set them up on a blind date. They married in 1981 and moved to Concord, Mass., where their son, Jeffrey (Jeff), was born in 1982.

As an active member of the Concord community, Julie served as President of the Concord Museum volunteers and was the Vice Chairperson of Concord’s Personnel Board. She also held a job in administration at the oceanographic equipment maker Aanderaa Instruments with her lifelong best friend, the late Brenda Orio.

For many years, Julie and Tom Nedelka’s historic home in downtown Concord was the holiday destination for her large extended family and many dear friends.

In 2003, after Jeff had settled into student life at Boston College, Julie and Tom moved to Amesbury, Mass. There, she started the next chapter of her career, taking a position in administration at the Lahey Clinic’s Amesbury branch. Julie worked there for more than a decade until retiring in 2015.

Julie stayed active in retirement, visiting and caring for relatives and friends, traveling abroad with Tom, Jeff, and friends, and volunteering at local organizations, including Our Neighbor’s Table.

Effortlessly gregarious, Julie was the heart of every social occasion. Like her mother before her, Julie rarely left the grocery store line without a new friend. Happiest when surrounded by her family and dear friends (whom she considered family), Julie was beloved by many and will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her husband Thomas of Amesbury, Mass.; son Jeffrey and his wife Megan of Boston; stepdaughter Sibyl Pitcock and husband Scott, and their daughter Lucy, of Portland, Maine.

Sibling survivors are brother James Carroll and his wife Denise of Juneau, Alaska; sister Mary Murphy of Newburyport, Mass.; brother John Carroll and his significant other, Kelly Neville, of Wakefield, Mass.; brother Fred Carroll and his wife Joanne of Chelmsford, Mass.; and brother Edward Carroll of Seattle, Wash.

Other survivors include many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews and countless wonderful friends. She was predeceased by her parents, as well as sister Johannah York of New London, N.H.; brother Stephen Carroll of Revere, Mass.; and brother Michael Carroll.

A private family celebration of life will be held. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Our Neighbor’s Table in Amesbury, Mass. To sign the online guestbook, please visit www.paulcrogers.com.
