Larry Wayne Wheeler of Amesbury, MA, passed away on Friday, December 26th at Lahey Hospital Medical Center in Burlington, surrounded by his loving family after a brief illness.

Larry was born on October 16,1949 to the late Raymond A. Wheeler and the late Yolande G. (Breton) Wheeler in Rochester, New Hampshire. Growing up in Billerica, MA, Larry went on to join the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. During this time he married his first wife, Ruth Leslie, and welcomed daughter Beth J., son Larry W. Jr, daughter Dawn M. and son Kevin M. into his life.

Larry later married his wife Helen (Morris) and welcomed sons Nicholas E. and Kristopher J. Wheeler. Larry and Helen were happily married for over 41 years prior to his passing.

Larry’s life was blessed with many children who all were the light of his life. He loved them all so much and was infinitely proud of their respective characters, talents, and accomplishments. Larry was a devoted husband and loving father; he was fun, supportive, and imaginative. Whether it was fishing, working on cars, making Halloween props, furniture or woodworking projects with the kids. He left countless indelible memories for the family to cherish.

Larry and Helen moved to Amesbury in early 2009 and had lived here for nearly seventeen years. Prior to moving to Amesbury, Larry and his family had lived in Pepperell, MA for roughly a decade after moving from Billerica.

Following his retirement, Larry was very active with the local Senior Centers of Amesbury, Newburyport, Salisbury, Merrimac and Haverhill.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, as well as a brother, Danny Hildreth, a sister, Janet (Hildreth) Kaufman, his first wife, Ruth (Leslie) Callahan, his daughter Dawn Marie Wheeler and his eldest son Larry Wheeler Jr.

In addition to his wife Helen, Larry is survived by his son Kevin Wheeler ofPelham, NH, his daughter Beth Callahan (and husband David Suprenant) of Hudson, NH, son Nicholas Wheeler (and wife Denise) of Amesbury, MA, and son Kristopher Wheeler (and partner Chrissy Sheehy) of Seabrook, NH. Larry is also survived by his sisters Brenda Langis of Dover, NH and Debra Wheeler of Salisbury, MA, as well as grandchildren Kayla (Surprenant) Gleason of Bradford, NH and Alexander Wheeler of Nashua, NH, his great-grandchildren Thomas, Paisley and Zachary Gleason of Bradford, NH and many, many additional cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A Celebration of Larry’s Life will be held on Sunday, January 11th, 2026 at the Social Hall at Union Congregational, 350 Main Street, Amesbury, MA. Weather permitting, Military Honors will be observed at 1pm sharp across the street at Alliance Park, with a gathering of Friends and Family to immediately follow from 1-4pm.
