Lawrence R. “Larry” Bograd, age 87, passed peacefully after a long battle with Dementia on Friday morning, October 2, 2026, at Maplewood Manor in Amesbury. He has been married to his beloved wife, Carol A. (Marciszka) Bograd, for 59 years.
Born in Exeter, NH, on August 17, 1939, he was the son of the late Bernard D. Bograd and Norma G. (Hamel) Bograd, and was a graduate of Newburyport High School, Class of 1957, and furthered his education at the Bentley School of Accounting.
He enlisted in the United States Air Force on September 22, 1961 and served active duty until December 18, 1961 when he was honorably discharged and was transferred to the Reservists until September 12, 1967. Even though his time was short, he was very proud of his Military Service.
On March 1, 1962, Larry was appointed as a Permanent Fire Fighter with the Newburyport Fire Department, and had many accolades during his 38 years of dedicated service to the City of Newburyport. He was also Constable of Newburyport, Deputy Sheriff of Essex County, and a Notary Public.
He was very active with the Masons, having been a member of St. Johns Lodge, A.F. & A.M. of Newburyport, King Cyrus Chapter, Knights Templar, Commandry and Newburyport Shriners Club. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, Dalton Club, Odd Fellows, the DAV and the Joppa Flats Chapter of Ducks Unlimited.
In his hay-day, he went ice fishing & hunting with his father-in-law, and went duck & goose hunting with his buddies from the Fire Department & Joppa Flats group. He was a boy scout leader, drove a School Bus, and was a tow truck driver for Newburyport Towing among other odd jobs. He loved collecting coins, old postcards and toy trucks. He always said he was a Jack of all trades, but a Master of None. Above all else, Larry was dedicated to his family. He was especially proud of his daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He leaves behind his wife, Carol; his three daughters, Kimberly A. Potts and husband James of Rowley, Kathleen A. Bograd of Newburyport, and Kelly J. Bennett and husband Charles of Newburyport; his grandchildren, Justin Potts and wife Kara of Derry, NH, Joshua and wife Laura of Newburyport, Daniel Bennett of Columbia, MD, Nicholas Bennett of Newburyport, and Shea Bograd of Newburyport; his great-grandchildren, Lilliann Potts, Abigail Potts and Logan Potts all of Newburyport, Mason Castro of Derry, NH, along with the many dear family and friends from near and far.
