Leonard J. Stanwood

Leonard J. Stanwood, age 84, lifelong resident of Newburyport, MA, passed peacefully at his home on Saturday, July 19, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was survived by his wife of sixty years, Nancy (Easson) Stanwood.

Born in Newburyport on September 21, 1940, he was the son of the late Eldred and Edith (Teague) Stanwood and had attended Newburyport High School and graduated in 1959.

Leonard was a truck driver for many years.

He was a longtime member of the Newburyport Masonic Lodge and also a member of the Shriners. He loved walking or riding his bike in downtown Newburyport, enjoyed tending to his garden, but above all else, he loved spending time with his family.

His life’s legacy will always be treasured by his beloved wife, Nancy;  son, Leonard Stanwood, Jr and husband Mark of Salisbury, MA; daughter, Lee Adams and husband Wayne of Salisbury; brother, Paul Stanwood and wife Harriet of Salisbury; two grandchildren, Christopher Stanwood and significant other Kayla of Salisbury, and Arnold Adams of Salisbury; four great-grandchildren, Dorian, Vance, Hayven and Lorelai, along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. In addition to his parents he was also predeceased by six brothers, Eldred, Alfred, Ronald, Robert, Frank and Francis Stanwood.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, July 24, 2025 from 6 to 8 P.M. at Elliott, Woodworth & Rogers Family Funeral Home, 35 Green Street, Newburyport. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, July 25, 2025 at 10 A.M. at the funeral home, followed by a Graveside Service at Oak Hill Cemetery where he will be laid to eternal rest. Donations in his memory can be made to the Alzheimers Association, Tunnels to Towers, and Shriners Hospital.
