Marion E Nolan

Marion E. (Cooley) Nolan, age 90, of Amesbury, passed peacefully on Wednesday morning, December 3, 2025, at Nevins Nursing & Rehab Center in Methuen, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Boston, November 2, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Francis J. and Marion E. (Luce) Cooley. Marion was a graduate of Girls High Class of 1953, Boston, MA, and had attended college for some time.

Marion had worked as a clerk for New England Telephone until her retirement and was a proud member of the Telephone Pioneers.

She was an avid reader, loved to tend to her garden, enjoyed knitting, loved Facebook, was a self proclaimed “Dot Rat”, and always looked forward to spending time on Martha’s Vineyard. Above all else, Marion loved her sons, James and Paul, her granddaughter, great-grandchildren and her nieces and nephews. Coming from a Civil Service family, Marion also held high regards for the members of the Amesbury Fire Department and area fire and police departments referring to the members as her “boys and girls in blue”. She was Mama Nolan to them all.

Marion will be treasured forever by her 2 sons, James M. Nolan and wife Suzanne Greaney-Nolan, and Paul Nally, and companion Dawn Leider; her granddaughter, Amanda Nolan-Gorcheck; her three great-grandchildren, Hunter Gorcheck, Zachariah Gorcheck and Genevieve Gorcheck; along with several nieces and nephews, extended family and dear friends. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her two brothers and their wives, Francis B. Cooley and wife Penny, and James F. Cooley and wife Patricia.

A period of visitation will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2026 from 9 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. at Paul C. Rogers Family Funeral Home, 2 Hillside Avenue, Amesbury, followed by a Memorial Mass at 11 A.M. at St. Andre Bessette Parish of St. Joseph Church, 2 School Street, Amesbury.
