Michael P. Boyle passed away peacefully on June 26, 2025 after a long illness. Born December 9, 1946 in Milford, CT, Mickey was the son of Hugh A. and Martha E. Ballas Boyle. Raised by his mother in Flushing, Queens, he earned two separate bachelor’s degrees at home at St. John’s University and retained his love for the school throughout his entire life. In between stints at St. John’s, Mickey served four years in the U.S. Navy at sea as well as stations in Meridian, MS and Newport, RI. It was during a temporary leave while visiting MA that he met his wife, the former Susan A. Cortes on a “blind date” that lasted over 53 years. They were married on March 20, 1971 in Newburyport, MA.

He earned an MBA in Health Care Management from Cornell University and served for almost 30 years as a hospital and long-term care facility administrator, a profession that led him to a wide array of locations from Holbrook, AZ to Reading, PA. He settled in Berkshire County, MA with his family where they stayed for 33 years. After retiring from healthcare administration, he worked as a driver for adults with physical and mental disabilities, a job he very much enjoyed for nearly a decade. While in the Berkshires, he was a long time parishioner of both St. Charles Borromeo in Pittsfield and St. Agnes in Dalton.

An avid sports fan, he grew up idolizing Willie Mays. Transitioning to a Mets fan when they came to Queens in the early 60’s, he would often curiously brag about attending “30 games before he saw a win.” He also had a deep passion for St. John’s basketball, a fandom that remained until his very last days. He played guitar (in his younger days he had a folk band with dear friends), enjoyed fishing (rarely catching more than a sunfish), and was an avid DVD and sports card collector—hobbies he enjoyed with both of his sons. He was most happy spending time with his family and cruising Onota Lake on their pontoon boat, preferably at sunrise or sunset. He also enjoyed his time coaching baseball and was his sons’ biggest fan in their sports and music accomplishments throughout their childhood and teenage years. He spent his last years with his beloved wife in Portsmouth, NH; often spending time with his grandchildren in Maine.

Mickey is survived by his wife, his son Ian and wife Angi (Elser) of Oakland, CA, his son Charlie and wife Lindsay (Allen) of Scarborough, ME, and three treasured grandchildren Theo, Everett, and Rosalie. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends all throughout the country.

Visitation will be held on July 10, 2025 at Elliott, Woodworth & Rogers Family Funeral Home, 35 Green Street, Newburyport, MA, from 9 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. with funeral service to follow at 11 A.M. at Immaculate Conception Church, 42 Green Street, Newburyport, MA. In lieu of flowers, he requested donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.  He will be dearly missed. May his memory be a blessing to all who knew and loved him. Go Johnnies.
