Michael J. Buzzell, age 68, passed peacefully at his home in Haverhill, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the dedicated husband to his beloved wife Carol A. (Garwich) Buzzell of 41 years, his best friend and forever soul mate.

Born in Amesbury, February 1, 1958, Michael was one of five children of Judith L. (Hart) Buzzell and the the late Gerald E. Buzzell, who passed in 2006. He was a graduate of Pentucket Regional High School, Class of 1976.

Mike had a strong work ethic and began his career working as a teenager at Yelle’s market in downtown Merrimac, after high school, he worked on the construction of the Seabrook nuclear power plant as a skilled union laborer. Mike was well known as an accomplished mason contractor, building amazing fireplaces for his own home as well as his family, friends and many clients.

Later in his career, Mike was the Superintendent of the Merrimac Wastewater Treatment Plant until he retired after many years of dedicated service. He deeply loved his family, enjoyed riding on his Kubota around his property in Rocks Village, snowmobiling with friends and family in the winter and boating and fishing in the summer. He enjoyed vacations in the Carribbean Island of St John as well as cruises to various Islands. Mike’s favorite place was at home going “down back” on the riverfront and watching the deer and wildlife stroll by, and just relaxing around home. He lived a life full of simple joys and meaningful memories. His greatest joy in life was being a proud Dad of two sons and even prouder Papa of his two grandchildren.

The treasured memories they have shared will continue to warm the hearts of those he loved so dearly, his loving mother, Judith L. Buzzell of Merrimac; his devoted wife, Carol A. Buzzell of Haverhill; his sons, Michael A. Buzzell and wife Greta (Koopman) Buzzell of Merrimac and Patrick J. Buzzell of Haverhill; his precious grandchildren, Caroline and Bryce; his siblings, Gerald Buzzell and wife Sherry, Kenneth Buzzell and wife Kathy, and Marie Buzzell all of Merrimac; his brother-in-law, Frank Garwich and wife Donna of Haverhill; along with nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends. In addition to his father, Gerald. he was also predeceased by his brother, Daniel G. Buzzell.

A Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, May 20, 2026 , at 11 A.M. at Locust Grove Cemetery, 2 Locust Grove Road, Merrimac, MA, where Michael will be laid to eternal rest, after a life dedicated to his family. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later time for his family. Arrangements were made by Paul C. Rogers Family Funeral Home, 36 West Main Street, Merrimac, MA 01860.
