Michael D. Ellery, age 76, of Rochester, NH, passed peacefully on March 18, 2026, at the Hyder Hospice House at Dover, NH, surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Brenda (Sargent) Ellery.
Born in Newburyport, MA on March 25, 1949, he was the son of the late Albert R. "Sonny" and Julianna (Schur) Ellery. Michael was a proud resident of Joppa and a graduate of Newburyport High School. He also continued his education later, receiving an Associates Degree in Engineering Science.
He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, having served from 1967 to 1971.
After his Military Service, Michael worked at Gould Shawmut in Newburyport for many years as a machinist and engineer in their machine shop.
Michael was a lifelong member of the Neptunes Veterans Fireman’s Association, serving many years as Director of the Neptune Fife and Drum Corps. He was also a long time member of the Newburyport United Methodist Church, an exceptional woodworker, and avid modelist.
His life’s legacy will continue to be treasured by the love of his life, Brenda Ellery; two daughters, Melissa Dunning and husband Shawn of Rochester, NH and Melanie Herrick and husband William of Brentwood, NH; a sister, Pastor Susan Elleryof Wells, Maine; a brother, Gregory Ellery of Newmarket, NH; three grandchildren, Nicholas Dunning and wife Madeleine of Berwick, Maine, Molly Dunning and fiance Kevin Wilcox of Barrington, NH, and Camryn Herrick of Brentwood, NH; a great granddaughter, Clara Jean Dunning of Berwick, Maine; along with several nieces, nephews,cousins, extended family, many dear friends, and last but not least, his very special Dachshund, Lizzie.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, March 27, 2026 from 4 to 8 P.M. at Elliott, Woodworth & Rogers Family Funeral Home, 35 Green Street, Newburyport. In honor of his Military Service, Military Honors will be bestowed on Michael at 4 P.M. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to American Heart Association.
