Paula M. Smith, 79, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2026, after a short illness, surrounded by the love of her family.
Paula was born on January 3, 1947, at Lynn Hospital in Lynn, Massachusetts, to the late Robert H. Dorion Sr. and Irene G. (Ready) Dorion. She grew up in Swampscott, Massachusetts, where she attended Swampscott High School and graduated with the Class of 1965.
On November 14, 1971, Paula married the love of her life, Frank “Buddy” G. Smith of Amesbury, Massachusetts. Together they built a loving home and life in Salisbury, Massachusetts, where they raised their family on Bayberry Lane. Paula and Buddy adopted their son, Adam, and a few years later welcomed their daughter, Rachel, completing the family they cherished so deeply.
In 2001, Paula suffered the heartbreaking loss of her husband after his courageous battle with cancer. Through every chapter of her life, Paula remained devoted to her family and friends, always offering warmth, kindness, laughter, and unconditional love.
Paula is survived by her brother, Robert “Bobby” H. Dorion Jr.; her sisters, Patricia E. Austin and Pamela D. Dorion; her son, Adam and his wife, Kim; and her daughter, Rachel and her husband, Ramon.
She also leaves behind the true joys of her life — her beloved grandchildren: Faith, Xavier, Kaylina, Adam Jr., Alani, Avery, Sydney, and Angel; and her cherished great-grandchildren: Liam, Everleigh, Susan, and Emery.
Paula loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren more than anything in the world. She was always there for them with love, laughter, sneaky cups of coffee, and trips to McDonald’s — memories they will carry with them forever.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Paula’s life and the love she shared with everyone around her. Visiting hours will be held Monday, May 18, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Paul C. Rogers Funeral Home in Amesbury, Massachusetts. A funeral service and burial will take place at Swampscott Cemetery on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at 10:00 AM.
Paula’s love, strength, and devotion to family will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
