Richard J. “Nick” Nicholson

 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Richard J. “Nick” Nicholson, of West Newbury, Massachusetts, at the age of 80. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on June 23, 1946, Richard lived a life defined by hard work, integrity, laughter, and an unwavering devotion to his family.Richard built a long and successful career with New England Telephone, where he was respected as a true leader. He believed in leading by example, worked incredibly hard, and always made time to help others. Whether at work or at home, people sought his advice because he had a way of putting things into perspective and offering honest guidance. His wisdom helped shape the lives of many.

Sports were one of Richard’s greatest passions. He loved baseball, softball, basketball, and golf, but what brought him the most joy was watching his children and grandchildren play. He was their biggest fan, rarely missing a game and always cheering from the sidelines. Whether coaching or sharing his years of experience afterward, he had a gift for turning lessons from sports into lessons for life.

Richard found happiness in life’s simple pleasures: enjoying a seafood platter, taking walks, watching a good movie, cooking, and spending time in Maine, where he loved to hunt and make memories with family and friends. He also loved fishing, especially the time spent out on the water with his grandchildren and friends.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Susan Nicholson; his daughter, Jennifer, and her children, Alex, Lauren, and Kyle; his son, Seth Nicholson and daughter-in-law, Kimberly, and their children, Brody, Tyler, and Julia; his daughter, Linsey; his sister, Nancy Karvounis and her husband, Jimmy; and his nieces, Kara and Tricia.

We will forever be grateful for his love, his laughter, his guidance, and the countless hours he spent cheering us on. Though we will miss him every day, his example will continue to live on in all of us.

In accordance with Richard’s wishes, the family will hold a private seaside service.
