Robert W. Pilon Sr., 85, of Amesbury, MA, died peacefully while surrounded by his family on Saturday, September 28, 2024. He was the beloved husband of Margaret M. (Heywood) Pilon who passed away in February to whom he had been married for 66 years. Some believe, he died of a broken heart.
Born in Amesbury on November 9, 1938, he was the son of the late George and Mathilda (Castonguay) Pilon and attended Amesbury schools.
Bob’s love for cars, especially his 1972 Chevy pickup, the “Lead Sled”, began at an early age and he shared that love with everyone he met. The love continued in the family business, “Bob’s Auto Repair LLC” where he shared his knowledge and expertise with his son and passed on the
business to him. He will be missed by his customers who knew he would always be fair and honest and they appreciated his witty sense of humor.
He loved antiquing, estate sales, clocks, lamps and working on the house he lived in since he was five years old. He took great pride as the third generation to live in the Amesbury family home; working on the home was a labor of love which made it a home for all to enjoy. He had many loves, but nothing compared to his love for his family; his children knew he was just a call away for advice, love or to share a funny story. The grandchildren were those special people in his life that he could just enjoy – just like all grandparents --- he didn’t have to be that “parent” he could just love them and that he did always.
He traveled worldwide with his wife and especially enjoyed Hawaii and the Canadian Rockies. His fondest memories were towing a camper to Florida and camping at Fort Wilderness in Walt
Disney World with the family.
He is survived by three children: Doris A. Paquin and her husband David of Exeter, Robert W. Pilon, Jr. of Haverhill and his significant other Corinne Dunn of Amesbury, Annette L. Dion and her husband Rene of Dracut, MA; four grandchildren Jennifer Ingraham of Portsmouth, NH, Joseph R. Dion of Lowell, MA, William R. Dion and Michelle L. Dion of Dracut, MA, one great-grandson Tristan Ingraham of Exeter, NH, one sister, Irene G. Eaton and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers George J. Pilon, Roland L. Pilon and Robert
Pilon, and two sisters Gisele P. (Pilon) Cote, and Gilberte Pilon.
Services are private. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Salvation Army.
