Jennifer J. Wellam

Jennifer Hall Johnson Wellman, 78, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 5, 2026, at home.

She was born on November 22, 1947, in Amesbury, MA, to Leonard Ware Johnson and Helen Bailey Johnson.

Jennifer grew up in Amesbury with a deep love for her hometown and the Merrimack River that flows through it. She was especially proud to be a twin, sharing a lifelong bond with her twin brother. A graduate of Amesbury High School, she was a cheerleader who also played field hockey and enjoyed snow skiing. She graduated from Endicott Junior College in 1968 with an Associate’s Degree in Art.

Jennifer had a recognizable laugh that could brighten any room. She found joy in the beauty of snowflakes, the good luck of ladybugs, and celebrating birthdays with enthusiasm. Her love of life’s small pleasures reminded those around her to appreciate the moments that bring happiness.

Jennifer is survived by her daughters, Lydia Neher (Eric Neher) and Heather Wellman (Ryan LaVangie); her grandchildren, Claire Neher and Emilie Neher; her twin brother, Leonard Johnson, Jr. (Christine M. Johnson); and her sister, Pamela Fenner. She was predeceased by her sister, Penelope Johnson.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 20, 2026, at First Religious Society Unitarian Universalist, 26 Pleasant Street, Newburyport, MA, at 11:00 a.m., with light refreshments to follow in the Parish Hall.

The family welcomes flowers for the service (Paul C. Rogers & Sons Funeral Home, 2 Hillside Ave, Amesbury, MA 01913) or donations in Jennifer's memory to the Epilepsy Foundation, 175 Cabot Street, Ste 301, Lowell, MA 01854.
